My Primary VA Doctor told me, at my annual checkup, I should start checking myself, as she had a Veteran previously who had Breast Cancer. Four or five years later I felt a lump in my right breast. She told me to schedule a mammogram with an out of VA provider.
Everyone thought it would be a calcium deposit from blood pressure medicine, however it was a cancerous tumor. I had a double mastectomy in May, 2017. I stayed in hospital overnight, and was released on Friday morning. On Saturday went to a grandson’s baseball game, and on Sunday was in Sunday School and Church. DNA showed the cancer as estrogen driven, and was considered Stage 2. Fortunately, it was contained, and the lymph nodes were clear, so no radiation or chemo was required. Tamoxifen was prescribed for five years.
