About the MBCGA Advocate Research Committee
The MBCGA Advocate Research Committee focuses on matters relating to research specific to or related to male breast cancer.
The committee will be involved with:
- Recommending which research proposals, the MBCGA will support through funding, promoting, or other means.
- Meeting with researchers that approach the MBCGA for input or assistance.
- Meet with Pharmaceutical Trial representatives as needed to provide the male breast cancer patient input for new trials.
- Recommending and assisting with virtual meetings that present male breast cancer research.
- Reviewing MBCGA materials (e.g., handouts, website, etc.) to be sure that they are consistent with the latest evidence.
- Mentoring new male cancer advocates interested in learning more about research advocacy.
Committee Membership:
- Ideally, members will have participated in Project LEAD, the Scientist-Survivor Program of the American Association for Cancer Research, or other cancer research training programs.
- Members who have not attended a research training program are welcomed to participate but are strongly encouraged to apply for one. (The more experienced advocates on the committee can help).
- Members are committed to using an evidence-based approach to their work within the committee.

Interested in learning more about breast cancer research and becoming engaged with our research committee? We want you! One of the goals of our research committee is to encourage and nurture more men to become breast cancer research advocates through training programs like the National Breast Cancer Coalition’s Project LEAD, Komen’s Advocates in Science Program, the Alamo Breast Cancer Foundation Patient Advocate Program, and the American Association for Cancer Research’s Scientist-Survivor Program.

Committee lead members Bob Ritter, Rod Ritchie and Michael Singer have been involved in these activities and would be happy to share their experiences with you. Reach out by email to join our research committee.
