Professor John Boyages AM
MD, PhD

Professor John Boyages is a breast cancer specialist with over 38 years of experience in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. He is a radiation oncologist at the Icon Cancer Centre Sydney Adventist Hospital, and chairs Icon’s National Breast Interest Group. Professor Boyages is also a Professor of Medicine at the ANU Medical School, ANU College of Health and Medicine; and an honorary Professor and founding Director of the ALERT lymphoedema program. He received his training at the University of Sydney and at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute at Harvard University.

Professor Boyages has established breast cancer screening, treatment and lymphoedema programs. He is the author of Taking Control, a series of four books for patients: Breast CancerDCIS of the BreastMale Breast Cancer, and Cancer & Vaccinations (www.bcpublish.com). He has published more than 190 clinical research papers in leading publications investigating breast cancer and lymphoedema, and is a regular invited speaker at national and international conferences, patient support groups, the McGrath Foundation and Breast Cancer Network Australia.

In January 2017, he was awarded an Order of Australia (AM) for his work with breast cancer and radiation oncology, recognizing his “significant service to medicine in the specialty of radiation oncology as a clinician, to medical education, to professional organizations and to people with breast cancer.”
